A MAGICAL YEAR
With small class sizes and two dedicated teachers, each child receives the individual
attention, encouragement, and support they need to thrive academically, socially, and
emotionally. Education is more than just reading and writing. It is about building kind
and confident kids who love coming to school everyday!
-Reading: story-telling and vocabulary-building activities enhance language skills;
we use a Science of Reading Curriculum to build our students into strong beginning readers.
-Mathematics: introduction to numbers, shapes, and basic math concepts through fun and interactive games; we use a “hands-on” approach to make learning fun!
-Phonics: our program is built on the Orton-Gillingham approach. We also use Heggerty
Phonics for phonemic awareness. Mrs. Putman is currently working on getting her OG
Associates certification.
-Writing: students work on developing their skills as writers through drawing pictures and creating sentences and stories.
OUR DAY
THE VIBE IS ON
Our low student ratio is a great advantage, from which many good things spring. Our maximum class size is 14 students with two full-time teachers. We are in session 5 days a week, from 9am-2 pm.
There is an early drop-off option at 8pm with an Art & Play class (separate), facilitated by teachers.
We also offer after school classes and activities through private vendors.
WILL MY CHILD BE READY FOR 1st GRADE?
Every activity at DPCC Kindergarten is planned toward total readiness for first grade. Since it’s founding in 1949, DPCC has exceeded requirements for public and private schools in Decatur and Metro Atlanta.
